lavender-rimmed-scalloped-dishes-pair-spiral-throwing-rings-iron-brown-wave-edge
Lavender-Rimmed Scalloped Dishes, Pair — Spiral Throwing Rings, Iron-Brown Wave Edge

This pair of shallow, hand-thrown dishes features a distinctive wavy, scalloped rim — irregular and organic rather than perfectly symmetrical, giving each piece a petal- or shell-like silhouette. The glaze is the standout feature: a soft lavender-purple tone pools thickest at the rim and fades inward into a warm oatmeal-cream center, where fine concentric throwing rings are visible beneath the glaze, along with scattered dark iron speckling. The very edge of the scalloped rim is outlined in a rich iron-brown glaze that follows the wave pattern all the way around, giving a crisp graphic border against the softer interior colors.

Details:

• Form: Shallow dishes with irregular wavy/scalloped rim, small centered footring

• Glaze: Lavender-purple glaze breaking to cream at center, with visible throwing rings and iron speckling; iron-brown glaze outlining the scalloped rim edge

• Decoration: None carved — surface interest comes entirely from glaze layering and throwing texture

• Base: Small unglazed footring in reddish-brown stoneware with a raised firing/spur mark at center

• Condition: Good vintage/secondhand condition — please see photos for glaze speckling, small nicks along the scalloped edge, or firing marks

• Quantity: Pair (sold together)

• Dimensions: approx.
