Antique Japanese Kutani Ware Footed Sake Cup — Kiku (Chrysanthemum) Thousand-Flower Design, Signed Base
This small footed cup is Kutani ware, confirmed by the red-enamel mark "九谷" (Kutani) painted on the interior of the foot.
The exterior and interior bowl are densely decorated in the "thousand flower" (senbana) style, with tightly packed chrysanthemums and peonies in lavender, white, pale green, and blue rendered against a deep rust-red ground scattered with gilt dot work. The rim and interior repeat the same dense floral pattern, centered around a small gilt-and-pink medallion.
The cup sits on a flared trumpet foot banded in white and gold, giving it a stemmed, goblet-like silhouette rather than a flat-footed bowl form. Gilding is worn in places consistent with age and handling.
