Kasama-yaki Vase, Basket-Style Twisted Handle, Blue Speckled Glaze
A Japanese studio vase in a basket-inspired form, featuring a tall arched twisted handle attached with decorative riveted tabs on either side. Finished in a mottled blue and grey speckled glaze over a textured, ribbed body, giving a stone-like, tactile surface. The interior of the neck shows a warm brown glaze, contrasting with the cooler exterior tones. The unglazed foot reveals the natural pale stoneware clay.
This piece retains its original maker’s label, identifying it as Kasama ware (笠間焼) from Isobe Toen (いそべ陶苑), a known pottery studio in Kasama, Ibaraki Prefecture, one of Japan’s major ceramic-producing regions. Please see photos for exact condition, including surface texture and any wear to the glaze.
