Bizen-Style by Kataoka Seikan Wood-Fired Sake Cup — Hidasuki Fire Markings
Bizen-Style by Kataoka Seikan Wood-Fired Sake Cup — Hidasuki Fire Markings
This sake cup is a wood-fired stoneware piece by Kataoka Seikan, showcasing the natural, unglazed firing effects prized in Bizen-style pottery. No glaze is applied — the striking reddish-orange “hidasuki” (fire-cord) markings against the warm grey clay body result entirely from the wood-firing process, where rice straw wrapped around the piece reacts with the flame to leave these flashing scorch marks. Each mark is unique to the firing, making no two pieces alike.
