Maruhon Toki Chawanmushi Mug Set, Hand-Painted Violet Design, with Strainer Lids
A set of two Japanese ceramic mugs by Maruhon Toki, each fitted with its own built-in ceramic strainer lid, traditionally used for chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) or as personal tea infuser mugs. The body is hand-painted with a soft violet floral design in purple, blue, and green tones against a lightly speckled ivory glaze, with a gently textured, ribbed exterior surface.
Each mug has a single loop handle, and the perforated strainer lid sits snugly inside the rim, doubling as a lid or tea strainer depending on use. The base of one mug shows a spiral throwing mark; please see photos for exact condition, including any wear to the glaze or strainer piece.
