This hand-thrown matcha bowl (chawan) has a soft, rounded body that curves gently inward at the rim, a closed shape that holds warmth and fits naturally in cupped hands. The exterior is covered in a translucent grey-green ash-type glaze over an iron-rich clay body. Where the glaze runs thin, especially near the rim and in the throwing rings, the iron shows through as rust-orange flashing. The result is a warm, layered surface that shifts between olive, sand and russet.

The glaze is lively with small incidents from firing. Glassy green droplets and patches are scattered across the body and interior, dark iron spots (tetsu-ten) break through the surface, and towards the base the glaze gathers into a textured, pitted finish with a few small bubbles. These irregularities come from the materials and the kiln rather than applied decoration, and they are prized in tea wares for their natural, unrepeatable character. A small raised firing mark sits on the lower body (visible in the photos).

Inside, faint spiral throwing marks lead down to the well (chadamari), speckled with iron and highlighted by the same green droplets, so the bowl reveals something new as the tea is drunk. The foot is trimmed with a stepped profile and left unglazed, exposing the smooth, reddish-brown clay. The overall character is quiet and earthy, well suited to everyday matcha or display.
