Tsuboya Ryukyu Chawan - Hand-Painted Fish Motif Tea Bowl, Okinawan Pottery
Tsuboya Ryukyu Chawan - Hand-Painted Fish Motif Tea Bowl, Okinawan Pottery
A rustic, hand-thrown chawan (tea bowl) from the Tsuboya ware tradition of Okinawa, featuring a bold, stylized fish design carved and hand-painted in cobalt blue and iron-brown against a warm sandy-cream glaze. The fish motif wraps the exterior with confident, calligraphic linework typical of Ryukyu mingei (folk craft) pottery, while the interior and footring remain simply glazed, showing the natural stoneware body at the base. The bowl has a slightly irregular, hand-formed silhouette characteristic of traditional Okinawan studio pottery.
A striking piece for display, use as a rice or tea bowl, or as part of a curated Japanese/Okinawan ceramics collection.
