Turquoise Crackle-Glaze Serving Tray — Carved Bamboo & Crab Motif, Rope-Twist Rim

This large, flat square serving tray is a striking statement piece, fully glazed in a rich turquoise-blue crackle glaze that deepens to near-teal in the recesses and pools darker blue along the border. The surface is hand-carved (sgraffito/relief technique) with a naturalistic bamboo grove design — long, crossing bamboo leaves rendered in fine incised strokes — paired with two small, delightfully detailed crabs modeled in warm ochre-brown glaze with pale highlighted claws, scuttling among the bamboo at the lower edge.

This bamboo-and-crab pairing is a classic motif in Japanese and Chinese decorative art, often symbolizing resilience and good fortune.

The rim is finished with a raised rope-twist (nawame) border accented with dark cobalt-blue brushwork, and each corner is finished with a small triangular notch/spout detail — a traditional touch sometimes seen on sashimi or serving trays to allow garnish or sauce dishes to sit flush, or simply as a decorative corner treatment
