Japanese Speckled Ash Glaze Stoneware with Iron Brush Vase
A one-of-a-kind Japanese studio ceramic vase, hand-thrown and altered into a tall, tapered form with a wave-cut lip and matching undulating foot. Finished in a soft grey-green speckled glaze with natural ash characteristics, with a bold calligraphic iron-oxide brushstroke design across the body. The unglazed foot and rim reveal the warm reddish-brown stoneware clay, contrasting nicely with the pale glaze.
The base carries an impressed maker’s stamp, confirming this as an artist-made piece (mark not identified). Minor glaze pooling, kiln specks, and small firing marks are present, consistent with handmade studio pottery. Please see photos for exact condition, including a few small nicks along the unglazed foot edge.
