Shigaraki-Yaki Wood-Fired Yunomi Cup, Wave-Cut Rim, Natural Ash Glaze
A Japanese wood-fired stoneware cup (yunomi) in the Shigaraki tradition, hand-thrown with an irregular, wave-cut rim that folds and dips organically around the top edge. The unglazed body shows the deep charcoal-brown to black tones characteristic of anagama or noborigama wood-firing, with natural ash deposits creating pale grey streaking across the surface where the flame and ash made direct contact. Fine white feldspar specks, a hallmark of Shigaraki clay, are visible throughout, adding texture. The interior carries a soft grey-green glaze pooling toward the base.
The unglazed footring reveals the coarse, gritty stoneware clay body typical of Shigaraki ware, fired without added glaze to let the wood ash and flame do the decorating. Please see photos for exact condition, including natural firing marks, texture, and any small chips consistent with genuine wood-fired pottery.
