Yachimun Plate by Ken Sugawara - Hand-Painted Tenmoku Glaze, Cream Floral & Scroll Motif
A striking Yachimun (Okinawan pottery) plate by artist Ken Sugawara, finished in a rich, dark tenmoku (iron-brown/black) glaze and decorated with bold cream floral and feathered leaf motifs brushed around the rim, accented with delicate scrollwork and dot detailing. The center features a raised pink-toned ring encircling a small sculpted leaf-shaped boss. The exterior and base are left in a deep, glossy tenmoku glaze with an unglazed cream footring.
A beautiful piece of contemporary Okinawan ceramic art — the bold contrast between the dark glaze and bright cream brushwork reflects the traditional Yachimun folk-pottery aesthetic reinterpreted by a working studio potter.
